Summary
The COVID-19 pandemic was a huge shock to business, civic and government leaders in Ontario’s Innovation Corridor – an economically-important zone inclusive of the Greater Toronto, Hamilton and Waterloo Regions. Yet it also presented a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reorganize and integrate the Corridor. Rather than focus on recovering as a set of disconnected municipalities, leaders in the Corridor should focus on planning for a single, connected Region.
To facilitate this goal, this award-winning report provides a ten-point action plan that would contribute to regional integration. Each action fits within one of three broad categories:
- Shift to an equitable, integrated and high growth economy
- Shift to regionally coordinated funding that is future-oriented
- Shift to responsive and coordinated municipal governments that are encouraged to collaborate
