Summary
While the Toronto Region has fostered a healthy ecosystem of trade incubators and accelerators, it lacks support and resources for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) interested in growth opportunities both at home and abroad. As a result, many SMEs are unable to position themselves for growth domestically, let alone for the 1.5 billion customers accessible through Canada’s network of trade agreements.
This report provides an evidence-based foundation to improve the scaleup ecosystem in Canada through new targeted programs and policy changes. To do this, it uses case studies from Silicon Valley, Boston, the UK and Tel Aviv. With the right support, programs and policies, companies can defy gravity and grow to their full potential.
