TORONTO, December 17, 2021 – The Toronto Region Board of Trade appreciates that restrictions announced today are a response to the shifting situation and increased concern around the spread of the Omicron variant. We understand that these restrictions were not imposed lightly and are being implemented in response to a rapidly changing circumstance.
This does not, however, reduce the impact they will have on the province’s businesses. We call on all levels of government to collaborate to instate new programs designed to support businesses that face reduced revenues or are forced to close their doors during this period of increased restrictions.
Many supports that have allowed businesses to maintain their financial health through previous restrictions have expired or been repealed as the province looked forward to reopening the economy. These programs, or adequate replacements, must be reinstated quickly in order to provide clarity and confidence for the business community.
